The New Zealand Beijing Opera Society promotes Chinese culture and enriches New Zealand multiculturalism with the quintessence of Beijing Opera which has a history of more than 200 years. It currently rehearses in the Avondale Community Centre every Saturday afternoon. Guests are welcome
In nearly 7 years since it was founded, NZBOS has been actively engaged in the community activities. They participated in many local events, performing Beijing Opera. These include the Whau Chinese New Year Festival, AKL Lantern Festival, the libraries in various districts of AKL, in the Whau Spring Festival, the Asian Culture Festival of AKL Art Museum, Hamilton New Year Eve celebration, AKL International Cultural Festival, Whau Race Relations Day, Northwest Te Manawa open day ceremony and other large-scale festivals. We also perform in kindergartens, nursing homes, schools, family service centers. On average they perform for free more than ten times a year, reflecting principle of love to serve the community and culture to build a bridge.
