Developed as a response to the Christchurch Mosque shootings the New Lynn Diversity Mural represents the wide range of student cultural backgrounds at New Lynn Primary School. Based on photographs of the students taken on the school’s ‘Dress in National Costume’ day the artwork is a collection of painted cut out figures that ave been attached on the School exterior fence as a temporary public artwork. The figures were painted by a team of 20 senior students (9 – 11) supported by the artists Layla Rudneva-Mackay and Kiri Gillespie over 2 school terms. The participating students were nominated by the school.
