YOURART: PERCEPTION AND PROJECTION

Perception and Projection is the first episode of an art documentary series titled Your Art. This initial episode is dedicated to the local artist Stephen Woodward. It is a journey through his body of work which consists predominantly of public works within West Auckland. It is an opportunity to enter the artist’s studio, to enter the sanctuary where his works are conceived and produced. It offers the viewer a small window into the life of the artist, how the work is conceived of and made, of what thoughts, emotions and technical elements exist behind a piece of art in general. Art surrounds us in our daily lives; In the park, in the squares, in the streets. In this way, by knowing, understanding, and paying particular attention to our environment, communities can take ownership of and pride in the shared space that surrounds them.

“I believe in the hypothesis that art acts as a catalyst that favours the processes of socio- cultural transformation in a positive way. It is also known that the works of art that embellish our public spaces serve as representative icons to the neighbourhood that surrounds them. The more appreciated the work, the more appreciated the place that hosts it” – Eloiza Montaña
