Mo te Iwi o Te Whau
Our vision: an interactive signage display that encourages locals to share stories and korero that preserve our modern cultural history.
We believe it is important to create art in the community that holds space for individual concepts like Pepeha, as this nurtures a greater understanding of Te Ao Maori.
The Whau has a treasure trove of purakau to remember – we will highlight two in particular with further information
- Owha the leopard seal who used te whau as a highway – just as earlier maori used Te Taonga waka for travel between Waitemata and Manukau.
- Te Wharenui o Kakariki – The lost Marae of the Whau, where matauranga Maori values were upheld and passed down.
We hope our artistic installation will be an engaging tool that supports Pepeha!
