Manawaka Ao | Healing Ourselves

In March 2025, 13 local participants from Māori, Pasifika, and ethnically diverse communities came together at the Glenavon Hub for a day of connection and creativity. Guided by Maha and the Aotearoa Bone Collective, each participant carved their own pounamu and learnt about the mātauranga (knowledge) and stories behind this treasured stone. A photographer captured portraits of each carver, which were later exhibited at Glenavon School on June 19 as part of the Matariki celebrations. Each participant also received a framed copy of their portrait to honour their journey and contribution.
