Braids and Bottle Caps: Art, Environment, and African Legacy

Join Nigerian-born artist Mary Adeosun and co-creator Tristan Bloemstein as they re-imagine locally collected bottle caps and braided forms into striking sculptural works inspired by African headpieces, masks, and traditions. This project honours cultural heritage while addressing environmental concerns through creative reuse.

With the support of community, Mary and Tristan will bring Avondale Library to life with art, workshop  and shared moments of connection. A braiding workshop will welcome people of all ages to come together, share stories and create in community.

Happening during Africa Month this May, the exhibition invites both migrants and locals to celebrate culture, honour ancestral knowledge and reflect on how we care for each other and the world around us.
